Ground Effect Aerodynamics of Race Cars We review the progress made during the last 30 years on ground effect aerodynamics associated with race cars, in particular open wheel race cars. Ground effect aerodynam-ics of race cars is concerned with generating downforce, principally via low pressure on the surfaces nearest to the ground.This paper describes the design and CFD analysis of a Formula SAE car. A numerical study of a rear engine SAE racecar is presented. The focus of the study is to investigate the aerodynamics characteristics of a SAE race car with front spoiler, without front spoiler and with firewall vents.
